Healthy Lifestyles

Our children are spending more and more time in front of a screen and less time engaged in some sort of physical activity. The CDC indicates that 32% of American children aged 2 – 19 are considered overweight or obese. Dr. Ramchandra and the entire Bay Colony Pediatrics team believe that feeding children a balanced diet can reduce or eliminate the chance of troubling health problems such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and sleep apnea, as well as psychosocial consequences such as social discrimination and low self-esteem.

Due to the alarming pediatric obesity epidemic, Dr. Ramchandra has developed our Healthy Lifestyles visit. This unique visit helps our providers monitor body mass index (BMI), blood sugar control, cholesterol levels, and better assess the risk of developing diabetes or diabetic complications based on family history, blood work results, waist circumference, and height and weight of each patient. If a child has obesity, he or she has a higher risk of continuing to have weight problems into adulthood.

Our office offers this visit along with a multitude of helpful handouts, including meal ideas, to help you and your child take the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
