Checkups

Checkup or well-child visits are the foundation of healthy growth and development. These routine checkups help us track your child’s height, weight, vision, hearing, dental, and milestones, provide recommended vaccines, lab testing, and address nutrition, sleep, behavior, school concerns, and safety—often catching small issues early before they become bigger problems.

Well-child visits vs. sick visits: Well-child visits are scheduled comprehensive preventive visits for children who are generally healthy, focused on growth, development, and prevention. Sick visits are problem-focused visits for new symptoms—such as fever, cough, ear pain, vomiting, rashes, or injuries—so we can diagnose, treat, and help your child feel better. Both are important, but they serve different purposes: well visits keep kids on track; sick visits address urgent concerns.

Well-child visits are conducted 3-5 days, 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months, and 3 years after birth. After that, each visit is annual. Handouts on what to expect at each checkup is given below. These handout will be sent to the patient portal.

Bay Colony Pediatrics makes appointments in advance for checkups so our system can send you reminders. We call these appointments "Future Well Visits". We send out text reminders 1 month, 2 weeks, 2 days and 1 day ahead of your appointment to ask if you would like to confirm or reschedule. Alternatively, you can request to schedule an appointment through the "Book Visit" button at the top of your screen.

Completing all your well check-ups on time is essential and Medicaid plans can even disenroll a patient. Medicaid plans and most private insurers cover checkups and vaccines for free.
